Joe is a minor Initiate into the Lesser Mysteries capable of summoning forth minor vaporous eructations, weak charms (presumably feeble attempts at wit), and underappreciated conjurations generally in the form of acrylic on canvas (although he aspires to watercolor).

Through such simple questions as, "What if we lived in a world where our beliefs were real, tangible, and actualizable?" Joe explores the possible through thought, fantasy, wit, and character.

Including influences such as Shunryu Suzuki, Tolkien, Krishnamurti, Iain M. Banks, Laozi, Stephen R. Donaldson, Philip Kapleau, Raymond E. Feist, Edward O. Wilson, Dan Simmons, and David Bohm, Joe creates existential fantasy filled with rich worlds, concepts, stories, and ideas.

Joe holds an advanced degree in environmental management from Duke University where he also studied religion with a focus on meditative, experiential, and transformative traditions.

Sage wisdom both for wizards and whatever the rest call themselves

The thoughts of a great (1) wizard, Mulogo, are recorded on these pages by his humble (2) scribe Ludaceous Vaer Mordicanum, Lesser Under Understudy, Apprentice Wizard 3rd Order, etc., ect.

While this lowly scribe does, at times, and most inappropriately, attempt to make light of the wiser, more experienced, and obviously superior in every way Mulogo, who is the greatest wizard of his Age (3), the profound truth of the words in this Treatise cannot be denied by a mere common man (4).

Some of the passages might prove useful to even the most commonplace and boring of readers that do not posses even an iota of magical prowess. Take, for example, the chapter aptly named "On Combat (and Sometimes Avoiding It.)" It is clear that Mulogo, being a mighty wizard (5), would phrase it so - "avoiding it sometimes." Yet to readers who are keen to pick up on even smallest of clues, the meaning will be perfectly transparent and the chapter will read more as "On Combat, and Avoiding Thereof." A sage advice to us all.

The chapter "When Griffins Attack" might not seem as containing information that a regular person could use in everyday life but judging it by the name alone does not do it justice. It also covers manticores, wyverns, spectres, and other common pests.

To sum up this great work of wisdom so profound yet so accessible even to the most unwashed of masses, allow me to leave you with these two small yet very important gems of an advice that could be glimpsed, among others, from reading this volume:

Inspires reflection

The second book in the Jeb Darby trilogy is a great deal different than the first. Set in the mid 1990s, Jeb is hitting a patch of normalcy. Normal job, drinkingbuddies, and relationships as needed (even if they are superficial). King of Pain was an excellant read. I always enjoy Mr. Jauron's rhetorical method of writing the thoughts of Jeb. I am greatly interested to see how the introduction of the new characters proceed into the third book.

Bad Girls Do it Right

PRICELESS!!! This book is completely and utterly priceless. I don’t remember the last time that I laughed so hard. I’m still laughing now. It was sheer brilliance.

Not only is this book very well written but O’Halloran has an unbeatable storyline that is so different from anything I’ve ever read yet completely based in real life. O’Halloran doesn’t depend on the supernatural or on overly fairy-tale-esque events. She takes things that happen to real people and weaves them together in a heart-warming and hilarious series of events. O’Halloran backs these events up with well-rounded descriptions of scenery and events without bogging her readers down with long, drawn out narrative lulls.

Best of all was how real the characters were. I absolutely loved them. They were so real, so open, and so funny. I wanted to meet them in person and join their club. They are three very different individuals, brought together through a common acquaintance who come to realize that true friendship transcends these differences. They also grow as individuals, realizing that stereotypes and prejudices can hamper them in their personal lives. These characters are also very well developed. O’Halloran walks a brilliantly fine line in their development. You find out all about them, without getting hampered down in unnecessary details.

While making you laugh out loud, this book really makes you stop and think about your life. It makes you contemplate stepping out of your comfort zone and finding the real you. It also makes you realize how important good friends and a good book are.

Being Open About Sexuality is RAWResome

Main characters Beth, Imogen and Juliette have to complete a series of risky dares in order to become real, legitimate bad girls. Though the point of view changes with each chapter (makes it hard for my wine brain to keep up!), this is a really witty book. And it's appropriately rated R for sexiness, language and more sexiness. So to sum up, it's freaking RAWResome. Would you expect anything else from a book about bad girls?

An easy and yet enjoyable read, Kathryn O'Halloran's `Bad Girls Club' tells the story of three women who want to rid themselves of their good girl images in the search of something more. The three very different women provide the reader with some amusing anecdotes and racy details of their brazen bad girl dares. Beth, who is uptight and respectable, dreams of the life that society says she should have. Although she is happy to become a bad girl, it is only as long as she's in control and no-one finds out. Curvy Imogen is matter-of-fact and straight to the point. Although she speaks her mind and seems confident, her quest to get laid is dampened by her low self-esteem. Juliette seems the most timid out of the three. She sees her life slipping away in a haze of Saturday nights spent on the couch with pizza, the Xbox and her harmless but boring boyfriend.

These three women, brought together by an overbearing, spoilt socialite, travel together on a journey of self-discovery, pushing their limits of self and sexuality to the very edge. Although the women experience vicious cat fights, erotic three-somes and high-society food fights, the `Bad Girls Club' is more a story of self-discovery and friendship than hardcore erotica. Think the friendships and sauciness of `Sex and the City' mixed with the awkward hilarity of `Bridget Jones' Diary' and you won't be far off.
