great short story!!

Tink will do just about anything to help Peter...even if it means helping him leave Neverland for good. So when the chance presents itself for Peter to leave, Tink helps him with a heavy heart. She will do whatever it takes for Peter to be happy again...despite the fact that her own heart is breaking.

When Strauss approached me about reviewing her new short story series on Tink, Peter and Neverland I knew I had to do it. Not the most knowledgeable when it comes to this fairy tale, I still was intrigued with the idea. And the little Neverland world that Strauss reconstructs is absolutely magical. This short story series that Strauss will be giving us is definitely worth the read. Geared towards younger YA, the story is actually perfect for any age. Here I am in my thirties and thought it was just the cutest read.

I look forward to what happens with Tink and Peter in the remaining stories and I hope that you will give this great little series a chance. Strauss did a fabulous job writing the first of the series and I think it will be a big hit. I am already in need of the next one and the first one is not even out yet!

My Thoughts:
I found this cute little gem when Amazon had it free. I've always loved fairy tales and when this was touted as Enchanted meets Peter Pan I had to try it, and I'm glad I did. I smiled, sniffled and cheered while reading this. The only criticism I have maybe is that this is really short, and I would have liked to see more of the stories packaged together into one novelette instead of 6 (I think)tiny snippets.

My heart broke for sweet,impulsive Tink quite a few times in this short novelette and I was anxious to see if things will work out in her favor. I will definitely keep up with the shorts as they come out.

A new take on Neverland

Love Tink was a wonderful retelling of Peter Pan that really made you think. It is always hinted that in Peter Pan that Tink has feelings for Peter, but Tink never acts upon those feelings. However, in this retelling, Tink tries to react upon her feelings. She tries to tell Peter that she loves him, but ends up finding out that he is unhappy in Neverland. Though Tink doesn’t understand why Peter is unhappy in Neverland and doesn’t want to help him leave she eventually succumbs to doing the right thing. Which is what love really boils down to in the end, sacrificing things for the person that you love.
As in the original telling of Peter Pan, Hook is the bad guy. And he’s out for Peter Pan as always. But he doesn’t appear to be as menacing as in the original telling of Peter Pan, which I suspect might change as the story progresses.
Elle Strauss creates such a magical picture of Neverland that makes you wish the green lights would whisk you into Neverland so you could frolic with Tink and the other Neverland fairies. And I can’t wait to read the next episode to see what happens, because I’m rather curious what Tink’s mischief gets her into.

This is an excellent introduction to body language thatis brought to life by splendid and humorous graphics. This otherwiseabstract subject needs these demonstrations to clarify the technicalcommentary. Nir's writing style is easy to follow and informative andwhilst this is not the first book I have read on this subject it is acut above because of the writing and the presentation....
I was impressedby this book. What brought this work to life were the excellentdemonstrative graphics and the humour. The graphics lifted the wordsfrom abstraction to reality. It is a tough balance when the conversation moves to influencing versus potentially ending up manipulating, butagain Michael Nir keeps this balance through careful and professionalapproaches to interacting with colleagues. Today though I will know how I should handle myself and how to read the body language of whoeverstands between me and my bag..the weekend waslargely a success although inconvenienced by not having my stuff, thebag is found and I read a splendid book.

Great practical advice. something you can use at once

Michael Nir offered me a free copy of his book in exchange for an honest review. The book looked intriguing, so I took him up on his offer.

The book is fairly short, very easy to read, and emphasizes practicality. It's all about body language: what different postures mean and most importantly, what that means to you in terms of doing business. Now, nothing here is new; all of this has been written about over and over again, in psychology books, advice books, and many other business books.

So what's new with Mr. Nir's book?

Practicality.

Mr. Nir demonstrates the use of each new bit of knowledge immediately after describing it. Certain postures mean certain things, that's fine, but Mr. Nir tells you what to *do*. He makes theoretical knowledge into actionable information. And he keeps it simple. No long-winded dissertations, just "here's how it works, here's what you do."

Over the course of a long business career (nearly 40 years), I've learned probably all of these things; you have to learn them to have half a chance of success. Everything Mr. Nir says rings true to me and matches my experience. But it took me a long time. If I had had this book 30 years ago, it would have accelerated things immensely and made a huge difference.

There is only one thing missing (which is why four stars instead of five) and that's something that pulls it all together. Mr. Nir makes an attempt at this toward the end of the book, but it's not enough. I wish he would have taken a situation--- a negotiation, say--- and shown it as a "worked example" from start to finish.

Bottom line: this is a very helpful and practical little manual that will be of benefit to just about anyone in business today.

a beautiful story, gets a beautiful treatment, the artful work is just too gorgeous

It's a shame that not many people know of George MacDonald, they're missing out. Whether you haven't read his stuff, or if you're a huge fan, this book is worth your money, the beautiful illustrations alone are worth your money- if you already have a copy of this story. If this is your first venture into this story, don't hesitate, get this copy if you love stories of a magical nature. If this is the first way you venture into George Macdonald, you are one lucky gun

Phantastic

MacDonald is the original creator of a 'dream-world of magic.' He is a wondrous story teller and an enormous influence on Lewis and Tolkien. If called a faerie, he would see it as a complement and he very well should considering his story is delicately woven with detail, fantasy, and hope. Is man looking past a world that is rich and full,yet does not fit the agendas of the modern human being? So grow a pair of phan-testes and dive into MacDonald's whimsical prose.

Beautiful presentation of a book, but the story dragged a little

I have been trying to expand my reading choices lately by dabbling into fiction more and more. I generally prefer to stick to nonfiction, but I know it will be good for me to broaden my horizons. Of the fiction I read, I try to stick with works that have stood the test of time. That puts me at a bias against recent works, but I just find so much more beauty in older works. One author I have recently been introduced to is George MacDonald. MacDonald was a Scottish minister, poet, novelist, and was dubbed the "grandfather" of the Inklings. Now, you see my interest in his work. Today, I am reviewing the book Phantastes, which is produced by Hendrickson Publishers.

For those unfamiliar with Phantastes, like I was, it is a fantasy novel about a 21 year old man named Anodos. On his birthday, he received a set of keys to his deceased father's desk. Within this desk a small woman who claims to be Anodos' grandmother. She grants his wish to send him to Fairy Land, but his reasons for going are not revealed to the reader until the end of the story. Through his travels in Fairy Land, Anodos encounters a lot of strange people and places. He meets a woman and her daughter who try and help him with advice, but of course he quickly forgets it when he leaves their company. He meets and frees the White Lady, whom he falls in love with, and a Knight, whom he befriends. He also encounters many battles and hardships. All of these are important in helping Anodos mature and stop acting like a child and more like an adult, because that is apparently the only way he will ever return home. So what was his reasoning for wanting to go to Fairy Land, and will he ever be able to leave this place and go home? Buy the book to find out!

The book is a classic coming of age story with Anodos going on the somewhat epic tale to adulthood. There are times when the story drags and is bogged down with details, and I wouldn't consider this George MacDonald's best work. That privilege, in my mind, belongs to "The Princess and the Goblin." As for the quality of this particular edition, it is breathtaking. The book looks to be an average sized hardcover, but when you pick it up, it feels heavy in a good way. I attribute this to the quality of paper used. The book contains scanned and digitally colored versions of the original illustrations, which MacDonald's son approved of. This gives the book that old time feel it so desperately deserves. So if you are a MacDonald fan, or want to see some of the inspiration for the Inklings and their writings, I'd recommend this book to you.

I read the second part of Wallace's book while on ...

I read the second part of Wallace's book while on a birding trip to Papua New Guinea. Every time we would see a species of Bird of Paradise, I would read Wallace's description of the bird and appreciate it through his eyes as well as my own. Many of his ideas and predictions are prescient about what is going on in ecosystems today. A timeless classic I will re-read many times.

It was only after I saw a TV show which depicted how Darwin and Russell developed their theories of Natural Selection and Survival of the Fittest virtually independently and at similar times that I was even aware of Wallace's role in this great discovery. I particularly liked the way they then both collaborated together and encouraged each other with no hint of jealousy or rancour. The number of letters they exchanged was amazing, given that sometimes it took months to delivery their exchanges of ideas and thoughts.

This is an excellent book and it is a great pity that Wallace's work on these monumental discoveries is virtually unknown and untaught. Darwin gets all of the credit and this, in my view, is not fair to Wallace.

This is a fascinating book. I would give it a higher rating, but the OCR is just horrible; there are multiple errors on every page, some totally incomprehensible.

In a nutshell, you don’t have to buy bees and incur the out-of-pocket expenses that hold a lot of hopeful people back from enjoying a wonderful hobby that holds tremendous business potentials.

Like a lot of people, we have more time than money and the bees are out there for the expense of our time.

This book is about my experience finding, catching and keeping free bees. With this book and the information within, you’ll likewise be able to position yourself to receive free bees and save a bunch of money. Or at least you won’t have to shell out those hard earned dollars to buy bees.

And as you peruse this manuscript, let me give you some great news: never before have there been so many opportunities for free bees. First, the horror stories coming out of the southern United States with respect to “Africanized,” or “killer” bees has the general public on high alert.

The fear of honeybees, ANY honeybee, is at an all-time high (though I think this fear is rather senseless and irrational). When people see bees, they want someone else to deal with them, and deal with them NOW! And every time I rescue a swarm, I’m bombarded with questions, “Are those the killer bees?”

Second, with the loss of honeybees to Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD for short, never has there been a time when people do not want to kill honeybees. They believe there is a shortage of honeybees (a debatable topic skewed by selective reporting from our news media). They want to give the honeybee every opportunity to survive.

But not in their backyard.

And this is kind of a paradoxical irony: They don’t want to kill the bees, but they don’t want them around. The bottom line comes to the reality that the general public is looking for people to come remove and retrieve honeybees and take them away.

Never before has the opportunity for beekeepers been greater than now. The general public goes crazy when they find a swarm of honeybees and they’ll make fifteen phone calls looking for someone to take the bees off their hands. It would be easier to kill the bees, but there is a new thread woven into the public consciousness that recognizes it’s just wrong to do so.

The result is more people in the general population are looking for specialized people (beekeepers like you) to come and save them by getting rid of their bees. I like doing this because I get free bees out of the deal! People hail you as a hero!

This manuscript is about finding those opportunities so people call you. You can acquire a bunch of free bees with a little effort and a little time. I have done this, and I’ll show you how you can, too.

There are many ways to collect free bees, and ultimately, you’ll have to choose the method that works best for you. I'll explain all those details in this book.

Good information, needs more editing

Buying packaged bees and having them shipped is an expensive proposition. Catching swarms of "free bees" either to replace hives that have died out over winter or to grow your apiary seems like a good approach for a small beekeeper.

Based on lots of experience, Grant Gillard provides good advice for those getting started in the swarm catching business. Gillard is knowledgeable and honest. He tells you what he knows and what he doesn't - making it clear that swarm catching is art, not science and something of a gamble on top of that.

While enjoyable to hear his experience, and glean wisdom from it, there was quite a bit of unnecessary redundancy throughout the text and a few copyediting errors that detracted from the quality of the work. That of course is the great thing about publishing electronically, those things can be easily fixed in a subsequent edition if the author is willing.

REDUNDANT

Most of what is covered is good advice on how to collect swarms.
I found it all to be pretty redundant. I would be reading something on one page that I realized I read just
A couple pages previously. I think the entire book could have been told in the fashion of a "booklet" or pamphlet.

It is more like a major gripe session about the reasons for the decline of bees and the authors opinion that entomologists must be wrong because he's still catching swarms... There are interesting parts, but you have to weed through the whining to find them!
