From INTERNATIONAL BEST SELLING AUTHOR Sara Alexi, who ranks as one of Amazon.co.uk's TOP Literary Fiction authors
The third book in the Greek Village Collection

The Explosive Nature of Friendship explores the tensions that exist between two lifelong friends.

Mitsos, now an old man, leads a solitary and ordered life, which is interrupted by the arrival of his young nephew, whom he reluctantly agrees to babysit.

To amuse the child, he recounts tales from his own youth, which are both romantic and tragic, while also being funny, and touching.

In the telling of these tales he is prompted to reassess the past and to come to terms with the events of a single day that has haunted him for twenty years, and all that led up to it.

A letter gives him a chance to rectify his biggest wrong and gain the peace he is seeking.

But is what he has sought for the last twenty years what he wants now? Is he the man he thought he was?

Set against a backdrop of a small Greek farming village, comedy and tragedy are present in equal measures.

Sara transports you to a land of sea and sun as she explores what it means to be human, and fallible. The book examines the nature of friendship, and how our choices and our perceptions of our place in society can define us.

Praise for The Explosive Nature of Friendship

Not only is the story rich in content, but the manner in which Alexi writes opens windows onto a culture of Greece as warmly related as anyone before. The book is not a heavy read - it is that kind of book to savor on a few sunny afternoons and evenings. If Greece is anything like the manner in which Sara Alexi shares it then it is high on the list for journeys in the future. - Grady Harp

It was a real page-turner and evocative of a lovely life style perhaps lost to many of us in the modern world. - Dad Pad "K60PAD" (Wales, UK), Amazon

If you have made the trip to Sara's two previous visits to the village, you are going to be highly pleased with the third. We find the familiar faces and places as it gets even deeper into the backstory of its characters. - Paul Howard, Goodreads

Another fab book by this very talented author Sara Alexi. Within the first chapter of this book I was transported to that Greek village. I even felt as though the hot sun was on my skin. It's a book that you could read anytime, anywhere. Sara has a way of writing that enthrals me. Her books are very easy to read and the storylines are lovely and this one was no exception. I dont think you would be disappointed having read The Explosive Nature of Friendship but you will be disappointed that you have finished it. I would recommend this book to anyone. - Kittycate, Amazon

I think the author has created a great world, full of colourful characters (both main and supporting) with interesting ways of life, all set in a beautiful surrounding. I can't wait to get on to the next one... - Kath, Goodreads

This is a brilliant series of books, and this (the third) did not disappoint. I love the characters, I love the setting and I love the story. - Mrs CFC, Amazon

About the Author
Sara Alexi was born in Oxford, England. She has travelled widely and now spends much of her time in a tiny rural village in the Peloponnese, in Greece, where she is (very slowly!) renovating a ruined stone farmhouse, whilst observing the Greek way of life and absorbing the culture, to enrich her vision for both writing and painting. Sara began writing later in life. In school English lessons were a time of confusion, books indecipherable hieroglyphics. Dyslexia was not well understood then and no support was available. The joy of reading and writing were cancelled by the teacher's red pen ... Despite her dyslexia Sara qualified as a psychotherapist and ran her own practice for years. Her artistic nature was, at that time, confined to painting and she exhibited widely. In a casual conversation with a client she discovered that Agatha Christie, Jules Verne and Hans Christian Andersen were all dyslexic, and Sara's perspective changed. The world of fiction opened to her with this shift in perception and she has been a prolific writer ever since. Her 'Greek Village Series' has been very well received and provides a keenly observed, compassionate insight into the Greek people and culture, and the human condition in general. Watch this space for the next in the series, coming soon!

"La forza del destino"
By Limelite
Mitsos is a one-armed orange farmer who lives on the edge of the village all alone in the stone cottage of his dead parents. His story unfolds in prolonged flashbacks with which he entertains his infant nephew when he babysits him. It is the story of an unhealthy friendship with the manipulative Manolis, who married the girl that had been intended for Mitsos in an arranged marriage but who is refused by him, sight unseen.

Manolis is a schemer, street-wise, and wickedly perceptive, a man from whom no secrets are safe. As a friend, one could wish for the devil instead. He is abusive and callous toward his wife, Marina, whom Mitsos vows to protect and watch out for. Theirs is a relationship triangle of betrayal and ultimately, unholy redemption.

Alexi is skillful in handling the present/past time switches and her story is dramatic as she builds the tension of the two men's ill-founded friendship until the fateful day when Mitsos loses his arm while participating in another of Manolis' criminal schemes. But in his older years, life changes for Mitsos and he has his chance to take hold of the man he is always meant to be, even when he thinks he is a worthless failure. Yet, even such a triumph over his history comes with a price.

Alexi makes this story compelling and engrossing because all her characters are flawed, thus they seem totally real and believable. Honest human warmth exists and persists in Mitsos' life, unsuspected by him and in spite of the twists of fate that always seem to leave him worse off. Alexi gives us all hope for mankind when she never allows goodwill to die in Mitsos' heart.

The only quibble I have is with the book's title, which seems to be an overwrought rendering of the crucial incident in the novel. Otherwise, there is much to appreciate as the reader learns more and more about the lives of the inhabitants of the unnamed Greek village where Mitsos, Marina, Juliet, and so many other live. Gradually, I am beginning to feel included in its population.

In lieu of a vacation in Greece
By Grady Harp
Sara Alexi has created an inimitable scrapbook of Greece in her THE GREEK VILLAGE SERIES. Reading even one of the four volume to date may inspire the reader to book a trip to Greece as the prime vacation spot, but if that is not possible then reading her magical books is the next best thing. The series is (to date) Volume 1 The Illegal Gardner, Volume 2 Black Butterflies, Volume 3 The Explosive Nature of Friendship, and Volume 4 The Gypsies Dream. This reader somehow missed reading the first two volume and these words are in response to the third volume - The Explosive Nature of Friendship. If this volume is any indication of the other in the series then it is comfortable to say that each book stands solidly alone as a completely involving story - without that nagging guilt of starting in medias res.

Born in Oxford, England Sara Alexi's heart is in her adopted home of a tiny rural village in the Peloponnese, in Greece. From this stance she has absorbed the Greek culture, mannerisms, love for handed down histories, and that Zorba the Greek like joy of living. She brings all of this to her books.

Her main character is the loveable Mitsos who has spent his life with the history he hides. With the introduction of his brother's infant son whom he has asked to babysit the opening of this windows on his past begin and as he saves to the speechless infant, `If I could turn back time, my little friend, so many things I would change. We were so wicked I can hardly bring myself to tell you.' But share with the quiet infant he does and that is what opens this sunshine filled book as Alexi brings Mitsos' longings and yearnings and history to light.

Grady Harp, August 13

I like this writer
By StefyPav@aol.com
Sara Alexi got me again. She knows about Greek village life, and writes about it very well. This book follows Mitsos, who was mentioned briefly in book 2, and it seems he has misunderstood his life his entire lifetime. I again got caught up in these people's lives, and hope there is a fourth book. I purchased book one of the series, and actually paid money for it. Try it, you'll like it.
