Main character is still really annoying. Some hope for growth in the next book though.

There were some improvements in this book over the previous book. The beginning was a bit annoying, with Mack continuing to just fight anything that gets in her way, as that worked out so well for her previously. Things finally pick up when she's brought back face-to-face with the magical world, and I hoped we'd see some plot progression. For a bit it looks like we will. I loved when the fae sat her down and gave her a hard talking to about her recent behaviour. However, it's not too long before Mack reverts to what she knows best - violence. That's getting really tiresome. I'd love a little intelligence from her, or at least some people in her life that can help her with the planning. The ending was really annoying as well - a problem that came out of nowhere (at least from our POV character's knowledge) and was solved by Mack with no real effort.
All that aside, it looks like the Mages might be able to make some progress with helping Mack grow up, so I'll give the next book a shot.

Won't be picking up the next book.
By Marikris
Like with my previous review (of the first book of the series), my problem with this second book lies with character development and plot. The heroine Mack hasn't grown as a character, and I feel that the story is full of plot devices that serve only to reinforce that she is a "bad ass chick."
The other characters are still undeveloped. I don't know Tom, Betsy, Julia and most especially Corrigan anymore than I did in the first book. These characters just happen around Mack, if that makes sense. It's as if they don't exist outside of her presence, so you only hear them when they interact with her. There are no real personalities or core to them, and you're mostly told about what a strong Alpha Corrigan is, or how Tom is a really good friend to Mack.
Story wise, this book doesn't crescendo to a climax, less so than the first book. The storyline meandered around, from Mack meeting a couple of witches/mages to a fairy stalking her to the red fever in the pack.
Certain other things didn't make sense to me: pack members' assumptions that Mack might be better than Corrigan in a fight (this just seems to simply reinforce how bad ass she is); that Corrigan considers her an equal and tells her so even though they have so many unresolved issues (yes, I know we're supposed to believe it's some kind of love, but mostly lust); that she somehow knew how to focus her so called bloodfire (and I'm still not sure if this is a physical state or a temper flare or what) and turn it into a pseudo weapon of some kind. It just seems to me that we are just supposed to take these in stride.
Pacing is still off, aside from the non climax. There are long passages of her just crossing the street and trying to break into the mages' citadel, for example. I had to skim a lot of these.
Unfortunately, I don't think I will be picking up the next book. I feel that aside from these issues above, the grammar and editing simply doesn't warrant the price tag.

where is the drama
By Reese
Ok I don't know if this is romance or just a long drawn out plot. The characters are ok and I'm wondering what's going on between them. There is hardly interaction mostly violence. We see Mack trying to protect and defend however it is getting tedious with the lack of support. I'm wondering how she gets out of bed knowing her life is constantly in trouble and no one to help her. Finally and most importantly Corrigan I don't understand him if he was truly an alpha why doesn't he put it on the line and be brutally honest. It seems there are so many games and lies it's hard to get into the story.
