Adventurous and Exciting for young readers

We read this as part of our homeschool curriculum and my nine and four year olds both thoroughly enjoyed this tale. There was bravery, chivalry, suspense, and some mystery, too. My nine year old son said it was the best book he ever heard. He identified closely with Curdie, one of the main characters, And of course my four-year-old daughter identified with Princess Irene. As our read-aloud, I enjoyed the story as much as my children and learned several valuable lessons about faith in what is unseen.

Read the Princess & Goblin series in elementary school, then in college, and now in my 60's. Still good.

A good and wise fairy tale.
Warning: MacDonald's stories are in a strange way somewhat frightening. They are not "tame" fairy tales.
C. S. Lewis greatly admired MacDonald, and you can see how MacDonald's fantasies taught Lewis about what fairy tales could do--about their emotional and spiritual power.

This was a great book!

I liked this book because there was a lot of adventure and the illustrations were interesting. I think I would recommend this book to someone who loves excitement and adventure. (Review by my nine year old granddaughter, to whom I read it)
