The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood of Great Renown in Nottinghamshire is an 1883 novel by the American illustrator and writer Howard Pyle. Consisting of a series of episodes in the story of the English outlaw Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men, the novel compiles traditional material into a coherent narrative in a colorful, invented "old English" idiom that preserves some flavor of the ballads, and adapts it for children. The novel is notable for taking the subject of Robin Hood, which had been increasingly popular through the 19th century, in a new direction that influenced later writers, artists, and filmmakers through the next century.

The plot follows Robin Hood as he becomes an outlaw after a conflict with foresters and through his many adventures and run-ins with the law. Each chapter tells a different tale of Robin as he recruits Merry Men, resists the authorities, and aids his fellow man. The popular stories of Little John defeating Robin in a fight with staffs, of Robin's besting at the hands of Friar Tuck, and of his collusion with Alan-a-Dale all appear. In the end, Robin and his men are pardoned by King Richard the Lionheart and his band are incorporated into the king's retinue, much to the dismay of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The author, Howard Pyle (March 5, 1853 – November 9, 1911) was an American illustrator and author, primarily of books for young people. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, he spent the last year of his life in Florence, Italy.

During 1894 he began teaching illustration at the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry (now Drexel University), and after 1900 he founded his own school of art and illustration named the Howard Pyle School of Illustration Art. The term Brandywine School was later applied to the illustration artists and Wyeth family artists of the Brandywine region by Pitz.[1] Some of his more famous students were N. C. Wyeth, Frank Schoonover, Elenore Abbott, Ethel Franklin Betts, Anna Whelan Betts, Harvey Dunn, Clyde O. DeLand, Philip R. Goodwin, Violet Oakley, Ellen Bernard Thompson Pyle, Olive Rush, Allen Tupper True, and Jessie Willcox Smith.

His 1883 classic publication The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood remains in print, and his other books, frequently with medieval European settings, include a four-volume set on King Arthur. He is also well known for his illustrations of pirates, and is credited with creating the now stereotypical modern image of pirate dress.

He published an original novel, Otto of the Silver Hand, in 1888. He also illustrated historical and adventure stories for periodicals such as Harper's Weekly and St. Nicholas Magazine. His novel Men of Iron was made into a movie in 1954, The Black Shield of Falworth.

Pyle travelled to Florence, Italy to study mural painting during 1910, and died there in 1911 of a sudden kidney infection (Bright's Disease).

SO GLAD FOR MY TEACHER

My teacher made us read a classic book for class. I thought this would be some lame old book, well , I was freaking wrong! I loved it, absolutely loved it. Best book ever! Although I was pretty sad when he dies in the end, and I think the yeomen agree. R.I.P. Robin Hood-A woodsman for ever.

Not really for kids.

Every adult ought to read this because it's part of our culture. However, I don't care how often Howard Pyle uses the word merry (ad nauseum), Robin Hood and his men were a gang, out for kicks. I cannot call it children's literature, what with intended hangings, and but once did anyone drink water. Just to also say that I find the best adult literature was written for children by a less gentle generation.

This book is a gem!

I found Ms. Strong's book Kissing Coach to be a real surprise. It is an interesting mix of sweet moments, very nice sexy encounters, and profound wisdom. I would recommend reading the Author's Note at the end of the book before beginning the journey into Feather's story. Feather is the main character and I thought at first, "Oh no, a real 'hippie' story," as I was coming of age at the time of Woodstock and had my fill of that rather selfish time. But, I had read a few collections of Mimi's stories just previously and trusted her. In fact, I found myself highlighting many poster-worthy statements about love, relationships, and life in general, and I never do that! The feather is really a very significant and touching part of the story, and not in a lurid way. The book moved me in such a way that I just had to try to write another review of a Mimi Strong book. I have only written a review of my Kindle books about one percent of the time. My fear is that I will not do the book justice and my recommendation will not help me share something of real significance with others who have yet to discover this very good writer. It is also significant that I am BUYING a lot of Mimi's books, having a very extensive collection of free books in my cloud. It is usually painful for me to part with my money, but Amazon makes it so easy to get to know an author with a free book and then affordable to read more as well as sending a significant portion of the proceeds to the author, who ultimately deserves it. Thank you Mimi for writing another great story. I hope you revisit these neat people in future books.

The Kissing Coach was a great, short and simple erotic read. Honestly, the plot was predictable and the writing was simple as well, but the erotica scenes were hot. There was a bit of angst thrown in there too!

Witty, Charming Romance With Food for Thought Thrown In

Thank goodness for book samples! Often when there are so many positive comments for a new indie book, it seems like they have all been written by friends of the author. Not so in this case! Mimi Strong deserves all the praise she has received.

I wasn't sure about the premise of the story before I started -- could such a story be believable? To my delight, I was immediately hooked by the great writing and super dialogue. I felt as if I were eavesdropping on the real lives of Feather and Devin. It's such a delight to read about realistic characters with all their quirks. No too stupid to live heroine or control-freak male in this book.

This would make a great movie and I will definitely be reading more books from Mimi Strong. It's always exciting to find a new author with such talent.

gets better and better

'There was no battle she wouldn't win, not even with herself. And if he wanted anything, he wanted to fight for her. If she believed he could, then he could. Sometimes it's that simple. What your love wants, you give her - no matter what you have to do.'

Seriously, this series and this author are AhFrigginMazing!! Such a unique story and gripping?! Oh yeah. From page one it grabs a hold of you and will NOT let go.

Jekyll picks up on the coattails of Hyde. After Mitch sends Eden packing, Landon delivers the news that she has been taken. They know that she is being held by The Clinic and they now know what has been done to them over the years by those they trusted most at The Clinics orders. What Mitch doesn't know is where The Clinic is located and he is driving himself crazy trying to find Eden.

'Mitch was stewing in his cage. A slow simmer of pain, disappointment, and - hell, why not - a huge motherf****** dash of plain, old anger. When he'd told Eden to go away, that they could never be together, he hadn't expected this. Someone taking her was not acceptable. It was - s***. Unimaginable torture. Except he was living it, not imagining it.'

And on top of all that, Mitch hasn't been taking the serum that helps keep Hyde at bay since Jolies death. Mitch's hold on his humanity is slipping, Hyde is pushing his way thru more often and he knows it's only a matter of time before he's unable to come back from a transformation.

'Hyde was so f***ing unpredictable now, Mitch spent at least half of each day in the cage. The other half was spent searching for her, cursing the motherf****** world, and fighting off Hyde's tugs until he couldn't do it anymore. Then he got to hurry back to his prison cell or shoot himself up again, depending on how bad-off he was. Good times, good times.'

Meanwhile, Eden wakes up after a two week nap at The Clinic a completely different person.

"My name is Alexandra Bertram, and I'm the facility clinical behaviorist-slash-administrator. You can call me Alex."
"Gee, thanks. You can call me `Kiss My A**'." She blinked. It was as if Mitch had replaced her tongue with his. And it had happened like it was a habit. Which it wasn't.

After finding out Carter, whom she thought loved her, has been deceiving her all this time is a hard pill to swallow. She doesn't know who to trust or what to believe.

'Lies on top of lies on top of dead bodies. How could she tell what was true anymore?'

She's also hurting from Mitch's rejection of her. She loves him and knows deep down he loves her too, but she also knows he's too afraid to give them a try and she's not quite sure where that leaves them.

'Mitch. Even hearing his name hurt. He was a part of her, even more than Chastity. He'd reached a place inside her that she had never known existed. Reached it, caressed it, loved it, until she'd been reborn with a feeling of worth and love. And then he'd tossed that part of her like a dirty sock, shut her out, just when she'd realized that she never wanted to live without it. Because of fear. Fear of himself - of what he was, of who he was.'

She's also struggling with the fact that is seems as though Chastity is trying to take over her body and it takes every ounce of strength she has to fight it.

'Chastity. The sister she'd never wanted, the world's worst best friend, the woman men wanted and women wanted to murder. Chastity was not only in the room, the b***h was in Eden's mind and body, occupying space that wasn't hers. Not while Eden was awake. And she couldn't have it. Not if Eden could stop her.'

And The Clinic wants something from her, but seeing through all their lies isn't as easy as it seems. She knows they are keeping things from her, a lot of things, but what?

"Why are you making this so hard, Eden? It doesn't have to be."
"The next time you're almost killed, kidnapped by armed men, and then wake up in the enemy's extra bedroom, Let me know how you feel."

The only thing she can focus on is getting back to Mitch. Even though he rejected her, he needs her, though he may not realize his life depends on it.
One of my favorite parts was the banter between Mitch & Landon, sooo friggin funny!!

"How are you feeling?" Landon asked him. "Cause you look like s***."
"Of course I look like shit, a**hole - I just had electric shock therapy. What's your excuse?"

"I know a place they don't know about. Police raid right before I got canned."
"Where?" Mitch growled. "Damn it, cop, if you say it's a crack-house that you cleared out, I'm going to kick your a**. I'm not in the mood to fight off a junkie for a place to sleep."
"It was a brothel. Nice place. You'll like it."
"Are you f***ing kidding me? Great. But if I get woken up by a near-sighted john who doesn't know the place was shut down, I'm not taking responsibility for my actions."

"'He who does not trust enough, will not be trusted', a**hole."
"Thanks for the tip, Confucius."
"That was Lao-tzu, not Confucius."
"Oh, right. Lao-tzu. Wasn't he the guy who also said, `He who has nothing interesting to say should shut the f*** up'?"
Landon laughed. "I think that was someone else."

Just as hott and funny as B1 with lots of action, surprises, deceit & heartbreak. Some awesome characters and some truly horrific villains. All rounded out with another cliffhanger that would leave me clawing my eyes out if I didn't already have B3 on my Kindle. Check out this author and this series, some brilliant stuff, you won't be disappointed.

'Did she know how she affected him? How he could barely think when she was around - naked or not? She brought him comfort, satisfaction. Not only in a sexual way, but also in a life-might-not-be-as-absolutely-terrible-as-I-thought way. In a holy-s***-I-want-to-stay-right-here-and-live-this-every-day-of-my-life way.'

Love it!

Hyde is book one. Jekyll starts where Hyde ends...and never stops. The action, suspense, horror, humor and romance is full force. Mitch is Hyde. Eden is Jekyll. Together they are the best couple. Seperate they are both wonderful. Each are strong, likable, characters. The writing is freaking brilliant. There isn't one thing I'd change about Hyde or book two, Jekyll. Read for yourself to find out why.

My Review:
I loved the first book in this series, but was completely blown away by this second book. I loved everything about this book. I picked it up this morning, thinking I'd just read a chapter or two before I got to work on other things. Yeah, that didn't work so well for me. It's now afternoon and I haven't touched my to-do list for the day because I couldn't put this book down.

This book picks up two weeks after where the last book left off (if you haven't read book #1, you need to read these books in order). The last book left us with a little bit of a cliffhanger...okay, a lot of a cliffhanger and things have seriously changed for both Eden and Mitch.

And here we have the issue with reviewing Urban Fantasy books. UF's follow pretty much a single story line from book to book. If I talk specifics about this book, I'm giving you spoilers from Book #1 and I don't want to do that. I WANT YOU TO GO READ THESE BOOKS...then we can chat. ;)

So, what did I love about this book:

*Absolutely the best thing about this book was the relationship that's developed between Mitch and Landon. I never saw that coming, but honestly, their friendship brought me close to tears a couple of times. They've been through some serious stuff together and bonded. It was truly incredible. I love the way that Lauren has written them together.

*Then there's Eden...Whoa...she's had a HUGE transformation between bk #1 and #2. I love how strong she is. Seriously, the girl is tough. She confused and overwhelmed, but at the base of it all is this core of steel. She's ready to take on the world and I think she's gonna win. LOVE HER CHARACTER!!

*Mitch- sob...gah, I love him too. His Hyde is so on the edge throughout this book. You just want to take him into a soft, comforting hug and protect him. He knows, everyone knows...he's skirting closer and closer to that edge where there's no coming back. It's terrifying, especially to him. He's also incredibly messed up by Eden's transformation which is shattering for both of them. So beautifully written.

I LOVE THIS SERIES! If you never read anything else I ever recommend, read this series. Everything about it is so creative and new. This is a story line like I've never read before. The books immerse you in this world. You absolutely won't remember that you're reading a book. I know that the whole Jekyll/Hyde sounds like a horror novel. These are not horror. They're much closer to Paranormal Romantic Suspense, but in the UF format because the story plays out over several books. I have no idea how many books Lauren Stewart has planned, but I will tell you that I cannot wait for the next one!! Write, Lauren, Write!!

" "Bloodline" by Shannon K Brown is the story of Luna Lanchester, a woman who lives her life carrying around a lot of demons. Literally. Luna is an independent young woman who has seen what abuse was done to her mother. She has also got an alter-ego, her demon side named My Lady Moon. And My Lady Moon is drawn to the other demons in Luna's life. Luna's search for a demon slayer complicates the matter when she is pulled between Sean, the High Priest of her waking hours, and Bane, the demon of her dreams. And then there is her neighbor from across the street, Dammon, the People Reader.

Luna's troubles go a bit deeper than your typical "girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, girl meets new boy, rinse and repeat" formula. Through her warrior blood, she is linked to the four sons of Lucifer; she is their last chance for the freedom to walk the earth. Will they take it, or will they choose instead to be bound to her for eternity? Poor Luna's life is as topsy-turvy as they come, with covens of witches trying to use her blood in their rituals, demons trying to make her their girlfriend, and a mother who just does not understand. And of course, there is her new best friend Izzy who just keeps trying to save everyone by getting them to make friends with Jesus. I found this book to be an exciting read, with a whole new take on choosing the "bad boy" as your soul mate. If I were Luna, I would be taking my time choosing between this set of suitors; guess that's what we will find out in book two!" 4 stars

VERY ABSORBITANT read

Bloodline by shannon brown is an amazing book. It swallowd me whole and would not spit me out until the end. I can not wait for more to come. I am enchanted by Bloodline. This IS a very dark and twisted book and it will take you places you could never imagine.

Very Dark Read!

Bloodline, by Shannon Brown, is the first book in the Saving Demons Series and I have to say that it's a great start. It fallows Luna Lanchester, who from the beginning kind of has it rough, but Luna is tough. After moving to a new place with her mother when her parents divorce, Luna seems to be surrounded by troublesome men. First there's Sean who is part of a coven. Sean is a troubled Warlock with Demons of his own that Luna seems to not be able to stay away from, no matter what trouble he drags her through. There's the too good next door neighbor Damon, and then of course there's the love of her life, Dark Angel Bane who is the son of Lucifer. After several events, Luna and her mother move again and here is where the story mellows out some and Luna really begins to learn who she really is and what it is about her that attracts the witches in the coven and the demons.

I liked the darkness that this story portrays. Though it could be a little distrubing at times, Brown took the usual supernatural stories that are so popular today and gave them a new twist, and a dark one at that. I felt that each of the characters were very well thought out, and I really enjoyed getting to see Luna grow from this troubled young girl, to the tough, butt-kicking main character that she is in the end. I would definitely recommend this book, but would warn those interested to keep in mind it is extremely dark and twisted. That being said, I am excited to continue reading this series and will definitely be looking for more books by Shannon Brown!

This book was powerful stuff.

There were some moments when I had to remind myself that this wasn't real. I got so caught up in the story that I was cringing every time Luna got hurt. Which is a lot. There's a lot going on in this book. In part I feel like it might be a bit to compacted and in other parts I almost felt like it was to slow. I enjoyed the book over all and would be willing to read the next one though. I like the ideas behind the plot, and the way it was delivered was decent. Some of the stuff I feel could have been left until the next book, but its not a bad thing that its given now either. There's a lot I could say about this book, but I really don't want to give to much away about it.
