frustrating

This appears to be the beginning of another series. Mr. Wise is a great writer.(I loved the Deadlocked series) BUT-- This book doesn't tell a complete story, it's just an opener for future books in a series. 99% of this book was character development and story set up. The 1% of real action seemed like an afterthought. I was very much invested in the characters but there was no payoff in the end. ARGH!!!

I wanted to like it...

I really did want to like this book. It was a really great idea for a story! But I couldn't get past the following, and it really ruined it for me:

1. The conversations between people got to be too long. tedious, teenager-ish, and sometimes had nothing to do with what was happening.
2. I couldn't really understand the story, though maybe that was the point because,
3. it was "to be continued".

I stuck with it though, because I really wanted to find out what happens in the end! But, see number 4. It just wasn't enough of a cliffhanger for me to want to read a second book, if there is one.

Don't get this book unless you like continued stories.

The main body of the book is interesting and well written although the first few pages almost ended it for me because of the subject and I quit reading it for several weeks.

Then I started looking at it again. The story line was new, the book interesting, until you start getting to the end. Then I became very confused and had to go back several times to the last few pages and keep rereading it to figure out what was being said. THEN you get to the end and it says "to be continued.."

Perhaps this was noted somewhere but if it was I missed it. I felt like I had wasted a number of hours on reading a book that was a total waste of time! What a bummer! I'll be a lot more careful in the future to try to avoid something like this again. I would not recommend it nor would I care to read another of this authors books.

The long sequence that is itself entitled "The Country of Marriage," perhaps the finest single work in the book, is a grave, moving, and beautifully wrought love poem. But the shorter lyrics have an equal grace and beauty—writing that contains the exhilarating lucidity of mountain spring water. And there are most notably, several more poems about the "Mad Farmer," who advises us here to 'every day do something that won't compute.'

Berry has here perfected a work that is immediately accessible but that becomes, as we read it again, always more satisfying, reverberant with manifold meanings.

Wendell Berry is the author of more than fifty books of poetry, fiction, and essays. He was recently awarded the National Humanities Medal, the Cleanth Brooks Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the Fellowship of Southern Writers, and the Louis Bromfield Society Award. For more than forty years he has lived and farmed with his wife, Tanya, in Kentucky.

This slender book of poems says more in its few words than most authors ever manage to say. Berry's acute perception of the world, clear and conversational voice, and knack for stirring within the reader a vision for making the world better are unparalleled, and nowhere is his ability more apparent than in this collection. My only complaint is that this book leaves you wanting to read more - and there is an easy solution for that. This is the perfect collection to your bookshelf, or as a wedding or anniversary gift. Read it, then read it again.

Excellent Book Defending the Faith Message

With so many books, web page, and YouTube videos that continue to give a false representation of the message of faith and many of its primary leaders, this book is certainly a breath of fresh air in an another wise mukry atmosphere. While Mr. Huestis is a freiend of mine, I don't necessarily write reviews for people just because we are friends nor do I endorse the works of others merely out of friendship. I endorse this book because it is still a very much needed book. If your knowledge of what the so-called "Word of Faith" movement comes from its critics, I encourage you to read Mr. Huestis' book to see "another side of the coin". If you have been blessed by the faith message but have been troubled by some of the things said by its critics then this book is defintely for you. It will relieve you of the heartache felt by the misrepresentations of your beliefs and the great men and women of God that our Lord Jesus the Messiah has raised up to help us to learn the uncompromising principles of faith outlined in the Scriptures. Great job Gregg.

Marco Wiering works at the artificial intelligence department of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He has published extensively on various reinforcement learning topics. Could not leave this fantastic book unreviewed.

If you're reading this you already know it's 5 stars just for the fact that it exists. You can see the table of contents, it is awesome. As you can see for yourself, this is not just a collection of papers, but a nicely organized and well-digested monograph. I haven't read it much yet, but one small criticism - 'Options' isn't in the index, probably the indexers were not the authors and treated it merely as a common English word, but of course it does discuss options. It's pretty well appointed with diagrams and photos, some of them in color. The color ones are pleasant, but are a small proportion, and I'm not sure how much difference color makes, the choice to use color doesn't seem to follow much of a pattern. A final word - the softcover is plenty expensive, but the book is so thick I wish I'd bought the hardcover.
